The Nawrass Water Activities Camp is a seven-day programme built around the Atlantic Ocean, designed for children aged 10 to 16 who love the water or want to discover it. Based at our coastal site in Briech near the historic town of Asilah, this camp offers a comprehensive aquatic curriculum that ranges from swimming technique for all levels to kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, bodyboarding, and ocean safety training.

Safety is the foundation of everything we do on the water. Every session is supervised by certified water-sports instructors and lifeguards, with a strict 1:6 ratio for in-water activities. Campers are grouped by swimming ability and gradually progress through challenges that build confidence, strength, and respect for the ocean. Non-swimmers are welcomed and supported with dedicated beginner sessions in shallow, protected zones.

Beyond the physical activities, the camp weaves in marine ecology workshops, ocean conservation awareness, and cultural experiences including a visit to a traditional fisherman's village. Sunset beach sessions, campfire evenings, and team games round out each day, ensuring that the week is as socially enriching as it is physically active.

Briech sits on a wide, sandy stretch of Morocco's Atlantic coastline between Tangier and Asilah. The beach faces west, receiving consistent Atlantic swells that are ideal for bodyboarding and learning to read ocean conditions, while also offering sheltered zones where beginners can practise swimming safely. The sand is clean, the water is clear, and the beach extends far enough in both directions to provide ample space for separate activity zones.

The Atlantic climate keeps summer temperatures between 24 and 30 degrees Celsius, with sea breezes providing natural cooling during midday sessions. Water temperatures range from 19 to 22 degrees in July and August -- refreshing but comfortable for extended water activities when combined with wetsuits provided by the camp.

A short drive from camp, the fishing village of Briech itself offers a window into traditional Moroccan maritime life. Colourful wooden boats, fish markets, and the daily rhythm of the fishermen provide context for the marine ecology and cultural discovery elements of the programme. The historic medina of Asilah is also within easy reach for a mid-week cultural excursion.

Campers sleep in sturdy canvas tents pitched on raised wooden platforms, each accommodating four to six participants of similar ages. Tents are equipped with camp beds, sleeping mats, individual storage crates, and battery-powered lanterns. The tents are positioned in clusters around a central communal area used for morning briefings, evening programmes, and equipment storage.

Separate shower and toilet blocks for boys and girls are built in permanent structures adjacent to the tent area. Hot water is supplied by solar-heated tanks. An equipment drying area with racks for wetsuits, rash guards, and towels is located between the tent zone and the beach, allowing gear to air-dry overnight.

A limited number of beachside bungalows with built-in beds and fans are available for younger campers or those with specific comfort needs, at a small supplement. The camp perimeter is lit and secured by night staff from dusk until dawn.

The daily programme is built around the ocean tides and weather conditions, ensuring maximum safety and enjoyment. Mornings typically begin at 07:30 with a beach warm-up and swim-readiness assessment. The first water session runs from 09:00 to 11:30 and rotates through the core disciplines: swimming technique (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke), kayaking fundamentals, or stand-up paddleboarding. Groups are divided by ability, with dedicated beginner sessions held in a shallow, buoyed zone directly in front of the lifeguard station.

After lunch and a rest period, the afternoon block from 15:00 to 17:30 introduces secondary activities: bodyboarding when swell conditions are suitable, beach relay races and team games, or a marine ecology workshop where campers examine tidal pools, identify local marine species, and learn about ocean conservation. Mid-week, a guided visit to the nearby fisherman's village provides cultural immersion and a real-world connection to the ocean economy.

Late afternoons from 17:30 to 19:00 are reserved for sunset beach activities: frisbee, beach football, sandcastle competitions, or simply relaxing by the water. Evenings feature campfire storytelling, ocean-themed film screenings, stargazing sessions, and a final-night beach barbecue with music and awards.

The week builds toward an ocean challenge on the penultimate day, where campers demonstrate their progress through a circuit of swimming, paddling, and beach fitness stations. Certificates of achievement and special awards for ocean spirit, most improved swimmer, and best team player are presented at the closing ceremony.

The camp kitchen capitalises on the Atlantic location to serve fresh, protein-rich meals that fuel active bodies recovering from hours in the water. Breakfasts include eggs, fresh bread, msemen pancakes, Moroccan crepes, fruit, yoghurt, and juices. Lunches feature grilled Atlantic sardines, fish tagine, couscous, salads, and seasonal vegetables. Dinners offer hearty soups, charcoal-grilled chicken or lamb, pasta dishes, and homemade desserts. Afternoon snacks of dried fruits, nuts, energy bars, and pastries are served between sessions.

All meals are halal-certified. Vegetarian, vegan, and allergen-specific diets are accommodated with advance notice during registration. Hydration is critical for water-sports participants: filtered water stations are positioned at every activity zone, and electrolyte drinks are provided after each ocean session. The kitchen team follows strict food-safety protocols and holds current hygiene certifications.

The water activities team is the most specialised in the Nawrass portfolio. It includes certified swimming instructors (FFN or equivalent), kayak and SUP coaches with federation licences, and a dedicated ocean safety officer equipped with rescue boards, flotation devices, and radio communication to the camp base. During every in-water session, the instructor-to-child ratio is tightened to 1:6. On land, the standard 1:8 ratio applies. All water-sports equipment -- wetsuits, life jackets, helmets, boards, and paddles -- meets European safety standards and is inspected before each session.

A camp nurse with emergency medical training, including treatment for hypothermia, stings, and near-drowning protocols, is on-site from morning until lights-out. The Asilah regional hospital is 20 minutes away and on direct standby. All staff hold current first-aid and safeguarding certifications. The camp director conducts twice-daily briefings: once before the morning session to assess tide, weather, and swell conditions, and once in the evening to review participant progress and any incidents.

Briech is approximately 50 kilometres (45 minutes by road) from Tangier Ibn Battouta International Airport. Nawrass provides group transfers from Tangier airport on the designated arrival day, included in the camp fee for groups of ten or more children. Individual airport pickups can be arranged at an additional cost of 350 MAD per person through our logistics partner.

From Rabat-Sale Airport, the drive to Briech takes approximately three hours via the A1 motorway. From Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, allow four hours. Direct flights to Tangier operate year-round from major European hubs including Paris (Orly and CDG), Madrid, Barcelona, Brussels, London Stansted, and Amsterdam Schiphol.

All registered families receive a comprehensive travel pack two weeks before the camp start date, including GPS coordinates, landmark-based directions, meeting-point photographs, emergency phone numbers, and access to a parent WhatsApp group for real-time updates during the camp.

The Nawrass insurance package (450 MAD per child) covers the full camp duration including all water-based activities. The policy explicitly covers injuries and incidents during supervised swimming, kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding, and bodyboarding, provided all safety protocols and instructor guidance are followed. Coverage includes civil liability, personal accident (medical expenses up to 150,000 MAD), emergency repatriation, and luggage protection.

Families who prefer their own travel or health insurance may opt out of the Nawrass package, provided they supply proof of equivalent coverage -- including water-sports activities -- at least ten days before the camp start date. A valid European Health Insurance Card or private travel insurance certificate must be presented at check-in. Our administrative team is available to answer all insurance-related questions during the registration process.

Our son was terrified of deep water before the camp. After seven days with these incredible instructors, he was kayaking in the Atlantic and asking when he could come back. The safety standards were impeccable and the marine ecology workshops sparked a genuine interest in ocean conservation.
